Aims of Dis:Course: Join us

We will support you by:

  • Providing practical support (such as minute taking, funding advice, photocopying) either directly or through provision of services.

  • Providing a volunteer bank of enhanced CRB volunteers to give this practical support.

  • Providing way of making yourself heard if you are unable to do so.

  • Providing external organisations with a group, made up of people with a wide range of disabilities, if they wish to consult with them for any purpose (such as modifications to a building and its implications for access).

  • Acting as a ‘broker’ - putting groups interested in forming partnerships in touch with each other under the governance of the Compact (code of practice for working with other charities).

  • Creating and maintaining a comprehensive database of community and voluntary sector provision of services for disabled people; whether specialist or not. The services will only be entered on to the system if they meet certain quality ‘benchmarks’ such as a robust protection of children and vulnerable adult policies; if these do not exist then Dis:Course will provide help and assistance in development. The services will also be ‘tested’ by disabled volunteers to ensure they are accessible and will give feedback to the provider. Eventually it is planned that an outreach worker will be able to take this database to people without internet access.

  • Providing affordable Disability Awareness Training. The Ark’s participants have helped devise a Disability Awareness training programme - parts of which actually include the use of drama and the arts, performed by people with disabilities.

We ask that you:

  • Work with us to achieve the best for people with disabilities

  • Use Bracknell Forest’s ‘Compact’ as a guide for working with us and other charities

  • Commit to finding out the very best practice in your field, and using it

  • Work with us to make sure your policies are up to date, legally sound and effective

If you have an issue, problem or complaint:

In any busy organisation issues may occasionally arise which you might like handled differently. If you have a comment or issue, make an appointment to speak to your regular project worker. If it remains unresolved,  our Project Manager will be happy to hear from you.
If a third party is needed to reach a resolution, we will bring in a relevant external body.
